We had covered Kimberly’s sister’s wedding a couple of years prior when we got the call that she was getting married. Having worked with the family once before made it very easy for us to know what to expect, a lavish and festive evening, and we weren’t disappointed. We started with Robert taking photos at kimberly’s parents house where she was getting ready. It’s a lovely setting for photos, particularly because of a beautiful curved stairway and wonderful door in the front entrance. This was the perfect setting for pre-ceremony photos with the bride, her family and bridesmaids. The yard there also offers fantastic photo settings, including a bridge over the pond in the front. It was rather hot on this particular June day, so we limited the outside photos to this one location. It turned out to be a terrific setting for all the bridesmaids.<\/p>\n

Lisa met the groom at his parents house a few blocks from the church where the ceremony was to be held, the Mater Dolorosa. They had a 2nd line band march them to the church, which certainly engaged the spirits for the day. As one of the grand historical churches of New Orleans, the Mater Dolorosa is an amazing setting for a wedding, with stunning architecture including painted ceilings. The origins of this particular church are particularly appropriate for a wedding ceremony as the church was founded upon uniting the local German and French parishes of the Carrollton area of New Orleans.<\/p>\n

After the ceremony, we took some photos at the church and then headed to City Park for the reception at the Arbor Room. We took some more family photos by the Popp Fountain, as well as some of my favorite bride and groom photos of the year. The bride and groom started off the reception with a wonderful dance which was well appreciated by those in attendance. After enjoying some time with their guests, we went on to the cake cutting. The brides cake was a four tiered creme cake beautifully decorated with flowers to match the bouquets. The grooms cake incorporated some pieces of a school project he had done as a young boy, a replica of a hunting blind. Included were some LSU colors and decorations. Afterward the Boogie Men band played to the appreciative friends and family in attendance, who know how to enjoy a good band and make a party memorable. On the dance floor there was little to distinguish between the bride and grooms friends or their family, as everyone had an equally good time. After the garter and bouquet toss, the bride and groom lead everyone around the room with a 2nd line dance, umbrellas and handkerchiefs raised in a traditional New Orleans manner. There was little this evening lacked, and by the end everyone had certainly had a time they will not soon forget.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
