The rain held off for Alli & Scott’s wedding at Mt Hope Plantation in Baton Rouge, and it turned out to be a lovely ceremony. The plantation house makes for a wonderful indoor/outdoor setting for the reception. The grounds have nice garden areas and extra cottages for the pre-ceremony getting ready. I love the outdoor reception setting as it allows for some discrete candid photos that capture the fun without being intrusive. For the cake decorations, Alli & Scott got the little bride and groom bird figures for the top of the cake from Japan. It was a unique touch, and make for a great prop to photograph the wedding rings.

Broussard’s Restaurant is a lovely location for a French Quarter wedding. The courtyard gives an open, yet protected area that makes you feel like you are in the heart of New Orleans. Jason & Patricia took full advantage of all that Broussard’s has to offer, having both there wedding ceremony and reception there. I first went to the Dauphine Orleans Hotel to get photos of the bride and her bridesmaids getting ready, just a couple of blocks from the restaurant. After the ceremony, they kicked the reception into high gear with everyone joining in with the fun. Of course, the bride and groom took a little time out to step out into the French Quarter to get a few images with the night life before ending the evening with a carriage ride.

This was our first wedding at Albany Plantation, and a couple of months before the wedding Megan and Justin told us it would be on the TLC television show Four Weddings. I figured it would be an interesting wedding and it didn’t disappoint. Luckily, it turned out to be a good day, nice high overcast which made for some good photo opportunities. It was a little crazy with the TV crew there filming the same time we did with out photography and video crew, but they were really good and everything went smoothly. Megan and Justin are a fabulous couple and they had a great time with their guests. The whole day was relaxed and fun, I’d give it 10 out of 10 stars!

The last wedding I photographed at St. Dominic Church in New Orleans was just before hurricane Katrina. I was saddened to hear that it had been flooded, but glad to hear it was refurbished. When Marie & Marc came to us for their wedding photography & video, I was happy for the opportunity to photograph there once again. The refurbishment was beautifully done, bringing this grand church back to life in all it’s glory. The reception was at the Balcony, were everyone had a fabulous time celebrating the happy couple.

When I spoke to Vania before the wedding about her photos, I could tell she has a very romantic sensibility in what she likes. We looked as some of the photos that have caught her eye, and we took advantage of the lovely setting of Southern Oaks to get some photos like she had in mind. Of course, I’m always looking for the natural photos that show people being themselves, and Vania being naturally romantic at heart provided some nice photo opportunities to get some elegant photos of her and Denis, particularly when they were together on the dance floor.

We got Sharon and Kelley’s wedding featured in the Wedding Tales section of NOLA Wedding Guide magazine, Summer 2013 issue. We met Sharron where she was getting ready at the Clarion on St. Charles Steet, then on to the church to meet the groom. For the reception we traveled to the Royal Palm in Harvey, where the reception got really going when some Mardi Gras Indians came in to help finish off the evening on a high note. It was a truly memorable evening and a beautiful beginning for Sharon and Kelley’s new life together.

We did a ‘First Look’ for Caitlin & Christopher for their destination wedding at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel on Canal St. in New Orleans. I met Caitlin in her room first, which was a perfect location as it has a bedroom and a living room area that were separated by French doors. Christopher came in a little later and Caitlin hid behind the door, totally by chance we got a great series of shots with each of them in the photo, but not seeing each other. I get this photo requested a lot, seems to be one of the popular Pinterest wedding photos these days. I generally feel trying to recreate photos found elsewhere is never as good as getting genuine photos of the moment that occur naturally. In this case, we happened to do both at the same time, without even trying. As they had a sit down dinner planned after the ceremony, we did most of the posed photos before the ceremony, and only a few afterward. It was a lovely wedding, unhurried because we planned for plenty of time before the ceremony to get all the photos in a relaxed manner. Caitlin is also a big fan of B&W photographs, which was perfect for the candid style of her wedding photos.

With their wedding at the elegant Le Pavillion, Lisa and Nick enjoyed the beautiful setting of the historic hotel with their family and friends. The ceremony was downstairs in the lovely Versailles room and the reception was in the famous Crystal room, aptly named with the fabulous chandeliers and decor.
